Unstoppable by Nick Vujicic

If you have never heard of Nick Vujicic, I highly recommend that you stop what you are doing and Google his name. I mean it. Right now! I'll wait...

Also, you should watch this video:

Pretty amazing, huh? I had the privilege of hearing Nick speak at the Premier Designs National Rally this summer. Words cannot begin to describe what an inspiration this man is. Seriously, if you are not moved by this man's story, you need to check your pulse.

He. Is. Phenomenal!

On October 2, Nick's new book, Unstoppable, is being released. I, for one, cannot wait! I already have his first book, Life Without Limits, and it is excellent. You can read the first chapter of Unstoppable for FREE by clicking here:
If the link above doesn't work try going here:

I want to strongly encourage each of you to check out Unstoppable, and if you have the opportunity to hear    Nick in person, take it! He will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you believe anything is possible! He is truly an inspiration, and I am anxiously awaiting my copy of Unstoppable!

Thanks for Reading,
Darby

Why I Will Be Trying Whitney Farms Organic Plant Food

This post brought to you by Whitney Farms. All opinions are 100% mine.

I love to garden.  I'm not especially good at it, and there is rarely any rhyme or reason to the plants going into my yard, but I love it.  There is something almost therapeutic about getting out in the sunshine and digging your hands into the warm soil.  I cannot claim, necessarily, that it is any cheaper than actual therapy, considering what I spend on plants and soil, but there is just something about harvesting your own veggies that just can't be beat.  My garden this year is small.  Limited by the time I can spend in it and the space that we have available, I am only growing tomatoes, peppers, and some herbs.  But one day, I would love to tend something more along these lines:

Yes, I am starting small and learning as I go.  This year I am going to be trying out Whitney Farms®.  Whitney-Farms-Logo_Banner_New_C.jpg (6 documents, 6 total pages)

This company has more than 25 years of gardening experience and is introducing a full line of 100% organic plant foods and organic soils.  Using organic plant foods and soils is important to me, because this is produce that I will be feeding my children and sharing with my friends and neighbors.  I take comfort in knowing that I will be giving them produce free from chemicals and pesticides.  My 3-year-old is particularly fond of picking tomatoes off the vine and popping them straight into her mouth (I think she gets that from me). By using all natural plant foods and soils, I can trust that those tomatoes are safe and healthy for her to eat.

Whitney Farms® is currently offering a $3 coupon on their website. I will be taking advantage of this offer and would encourage you to do so as well.  Their products have low to no dust, no manure odor, are easy to apply, and contain beneficial microbes.  Let me know if you decide to give them a try and what you think!

"As One Devil to Another" Review and Giveaway

Cover: As One Devil to AnotherIn the tradition of C.S. Lewis' The Screwtape Letters, Richard Platt's As One Devil to Another is a series of letters between devils, Slashreap and Scardagger.  Though a work of fiction, it is a chilling glimpse into the tricks and trades used by Hell to lead Man astray.

I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this book.  Certainly, it will be added to my list of books that will be read over and over again.  I was continually amazed at the variety of methods the demons used to attempt to lead "The Client" down the wrong path.  From life changing events, such as career choice and death and illness, to seemingly mundane decisions, like where to have lunch on a particular day, the tempter was with the client trying to distract her from the path God had set before her.  Thankfully, God (referred to by the tempters as The Adversary) was also with the client and had His own plan for her life and people He used to help her make the right choices.  I found the ending quite amusing, but I won't reveal any more about it than that.  For a fiction novel, I found it especially convicting.  The thought that I may have my own personal tempter hanging around urging me down dangerous paths and towards misguided decisions, was actually very eye-opening.

It is difficult for me to go on about this book without giving away too much, but I loved looking at God's plan for Man through the enemy's eyes.  Suffice to say, this was a wonderful story full of illuminating ideas about the world in which we live.  It was as if C.S. Lewis, himself, were given a glimpse of the 21st Century, and wrote a fresh, new version of The Screwtape Letters for us to relish all over again.

The wonderful people at Tyndale have generously given me an extra copy of As One Devil to Another to give away to one of you readers.  I am going to make this giveaway fun and easy.  The author came up with very clever monikers for the demons in the book, such as Slashreap, Scardagger, Snitchweed, and Gritslime.  Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to come up with another clever name for a tempter.  If, in fact, we all do have a tempter assigned to us, what do you think yours would be called?  Leave a comment with your tempter's name as well as a way for me to contact you if you are chosen as the winner.  Winner will be chosen by Random.org and will be announced on June 1, 2012.

A Conversation with God - Book Review

Several months ago (yes, months), my friends at Booksneeze sent my a copy of A Conversation with God by Alton Gansky for me to review.  To say I struggled to get through this book would be an understatement.  I love the concept of this book, a series of challenging questions that many people have about God, The Bible, Heaven and just life in general.  Each question is answered from the point of view of God, Jesus, and other prominent Biblical figures such as David, John, and Stephen.  Like I said, the concept is fabulous, but the book itself was quite overwhelming.  I think it is very beneficial on a question by question basis and would make an excellent reference book, but to read it through cover to cover was difficult for me.  I would recommend this book for pastors, church leaders, and Christian counselors.  It would also make a great gift book for new believers, as it covers several of the most basic questions new believers ask.  But, if you are looking for a little light reading, this is probably not the best choice.  Here is a link to the book if you are interested in reading more about it:
